Soccer on TV: NWSL season opens with Angel City’s inaugural game; AC Milan try to keep Serie A title pace

The NWSL season begins Friday with Angel City’s first opener of the regular season against North Carolina Courage. It’ll be quite a test for Angel City after they ended the Challenge Cup on a high note by beating the Portland Thorns. The title race will remain the focus in England as Liverpool and Manchester City cannot be separated in a battle that is expected to last until the final day. To Inter Milan Goalkeeping slips during the weekAC Milan control their destiny for the Scudetto but they must prevail against Fiorentina as the viola look to bounce back after a shock defeat to Udinese.

Here’s what we’re seeing this weekend:

5. Angel City vs North Carolina Courage

Date: Friday April 29 | Time: 10:30 p.m. ET
TV: CBS Sports Network | Live broadcast: Outstanding+

Why watch: The NWSL season begins Friday when one of the two expansion franchises, Angel City FC, plays its first home game of the regular season. It’ll be a good test against a Courage roster that snuck into the playoffs last season and improved in the offseason. Angel City had the Challenge Cup to set things up and although they had a rough start to the tournament it proved to be a good experience as the defense made some progress as they secured a shutout win over the Portland Thorns gained. Can they wear this into the season?

4. Leeds United vs. Manchester City

Date: Saturday April 30 | Time: 12:30 p.m. ET
TV: ABC | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
Caesars Sports Betting Odds: Leeds United +900; Draw +450; Manchester City -335

Why watch: The Premier title race is balanced on the razor’s edge. Manchester City lead Liverpool by a point but they can’t afford to slip up when the Reds play Newcastle United. Leeds have improved since Jesse Marsch took over and appear poised to avoid relegation, but a home win over Man City would be monumental for them. When teams come to Elland Road, anything is possible.

3. AC Milan – Fiorentina

Date: Sunday May 1st | Time: 9 p.m. ET
TV: CBS Sports Network | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
Caesars Sports Betting Odds: AC Milan -155; Draw +280; Florence +460

Why watch: The Serie A title race is in the hands of AC Milan. Win and the Scudetto belongs to the Rossoneri. It’s not the first and maybe not the last time they have their own destiny in their hands as Inter Milan always seem to come back into the game. After losing 4-0 midweek, Fiorentina are looking to catch up as they stand a chance of a place in Europe, trailing Lazio by just a goal difference and Roma by two points. It should be a hard fought match.

2. Houston Dynamo vs. Austin FC

Date: Saturday April 30 | Time: 1:30 p.m. ET
Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
Caesars Sports Betting Odds: Houston Dynamo +135; Draw +290; Austin F.C. +195

Why watch: A Texas derby always makes things interesting and this time it’s no different as all three state teams have improved and are currently in the Western Conference playoffs. Houston has been led by its defense while Austin leads the league with 20 goals after just eight games played. Sebastian Driussi leads the league with six goals, while Diego Fagunsdez has the most assists in the league with five goals and puts Dynamo’s defense to the test. Can they withstand?

1. West Ham United vs Arsenal

Date: Sunday May 1st | Time: 11:30 a.m. ET
TV: United States | Live broadcast: fuboTV (try for free)
Caesars Sports Betting Odds: Westham +340; Draw +285; Arsenal of weapons -128

Why watch: Watching how David Moyes approaches this match will be fascinating. A defeat will essentially shut West Ham out of a shot at a place in the top four while increasing Arsenal’s chances of holding their own. With the game taking place after Spurs’ game on Sunday, Mikel Arteta will know exactly what he needs as Arsenal could have a chance to be five points clear of fifth place with four games left.
