Today’s picks: Why the Warriors will beat the Grizzlies, plus more NBA, NHL, MLB and soccer for Tuesday, May 3

Jonathan Coachman will be joined by veteran sports bettors Mike Barner, Martin W. Green and Larry Hartstein That Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for the NBA, NHL, MLB and soccer for Tuesday May 3rd.

The coach starts with three SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first is in the NHL: The Rangers (-130) to beat the Penguins in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first round playoff series (7:00 p.m. ET). “Put simply, New York is a 72 percent favorite this season,” he says. “Direct against Pittsburgh, 75 percent.”

The second game is in the NBA: The Bucks (+5) to cover against the Celtics in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series (7:00 p.m. ET). “You give me five points, and the Bucks? The defending champion?” Coach says. “I don’t care who they play against, I don’t care if they play on the moon. I’ll take the Milwaukee Bucks.”

The last SportsLine game of the day is in Major League Baseball: The Blue Jays (-135) beat the Yankees in the middle competition of their three-game set (7:07 p.m. ET). “This is a proud team, it’s a great team and they think they are the favorites to go into the World Series,” said Coach. “Tonight they are making a statement.”

Next up is Green with some soccer games. The first is a parlay in the Champions League: Liverpool on the money line and over 1.5 goals (-105) in the second leg of the semi-final against Villarreal (3 p.m. ET). “Liverpool’s defense is very strong,” he says. “Liverpool have Thiago Alcantara, who pulls the strings in midfield and brings in high balls for Liverpool’s very, very fast strikers. So I think Liverpool should enjoy the counterattacks a lot in this game.”

Martin’s second game is in the English League Championship: Both teams score in the game between Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest (-125). (2 p.m. ET). “Both teams are in great form,” he says. “Bournemouth have scored 10 goals in their last four games so they will be confident of scoring in that game. However, Nottingham Forest have won nine of their last 10 games, they have scored in all nine. It ended 2-1 against Bournemouth when the teams met earlier this season.”

Barner follows with two NBA games. First, he likes the Warriors (-130) to beat the Grizzlies in Game 2 of their Western Conference Semifinals series (9:30 p.m. ET). “They barely won Game 1, but the scary thing for the Grizzlies is that they lost a game where Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined shot 35.9 percent from the field and Draymond Green only played 17 minutes before he was kicked out,” he says. “I think this is another close game coming into the closing minutes but I like the Warriors taking a 2-0 lead before the series moves to their home arena.”

Mike’s second piece is Over 7.5 rebounds for Memphis’s Jaren Jackson Jr in the Warriors Grizzlies competition. “Jackson had 10 rebounds in Game 1,” he says. “He played the Warriors twice in the regular season, had at least eight rebounds in both games. The Warriors like to play small, so that should help him a lot.”

Coach bounces back with an MLB game. he likes the Rockies (-140) to beat the Nationals in the opener of their three-game set (8:40 p.m. ET). “The Rockies are great at home. The Nationals are terrible,” he says.

Hartstein concludes with his own MLB game. he likes the Brewers -1.5 runs (+105) against the Reds in their three-game opener (7:40 p.m. ET). “The Brewers were ruled out on Sunday. I think they will be angry,” he says. “The Reds are 3-19, they’ve cut the payroll, they’ve got a bunch of guys in the bullpen who shouldn’t be in the majors. … The Reds are last in ERA, Run Differential, OPS, pretty much every category. “
