Baseball roundup: Albany rallies to beat NLS – West Central Tribune

SPICER — Albany was able to rally late, scoring all three carries in the last two innings to leave Green Lake Diamonds in a 3-2 win over New London-Spicer in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

In the game, NLS assistant head coach Kyle Lieser faced his former head coach Al Amdahl. Lieser is an Albany High School graduate who played for Amdahl.

The Wildcats batted first in the bottom of the fifth after Cole Dolezal hit a sacrificial fly that allowed Brody Lien to head home. The Huskies, at the top of sixth place, responded with two runs to a double from Logan Harren.

NLS tied it with another sac tie at 2-2 at the bottom of the frame. Hayden Christopherson got the ball airborne and gave Gavin Degner a chance to equalize.

With two outs at the top of seventh, Albany capitalized on an NLS error and allowed Tanner Reis to head home for the starting gun.

As Albany maintained a one-run lead, Huskies pitcher Brandon Holm set off the Wildcats to make the save.

Brady Goebel led Albany’s attack and went 2-on-4. Carter Birr won after pitching six innings.

Lien was 2-for-2 with a triple, a run made and a stolen base for the NLS. Luke Ruter added two hits and a run.

The Wildcats are back home against Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
