Meet the candidates for All-Iowa boys soccer player of the year

As the 2022 boys’ soccer postseason draws near, it’s evident that Iowa has no shortage of talent in all three leagues.

Players across the state continue to campaign for the All-Iowa Boys Soccer Player of the Year. While there can only be one winner, here are 15 candidates that jumped to the top of the list.

The names are listed in alphabetical order.

Jahsiah Galvan, Sr., West Liberty

Western Christian's Bailey Baccam and West Liberty's Jahsiah Galvan chase the ball during the 2021 State Class 1A Soccer Semifinals.

Galvan will be heading to northern Iowa to play soccer, but he had to finish his high school soccer career first — and he’s doing it in style. Galvan has consistently been one of the top players in Iowa and ranks eighth in goals and ninth in total points in the state.

Nate Gerling, So., West Central Valley

West Central Valley’s second goalie has played nearly 900 minutes and conceded just three goals in the Wildcats’ game against Panorama. Gerling made 47 saves, saving 94% of the shots he faced. He’s helped the Wildcats to an 11-1 record – including an active 10-game winning streak – and a top-five finish in Class 1A.
