AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama Baseball suffered a 6-4 loss at 20th-ranged Auburn at Plainsman Park on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers secured the series with the win in game two while the Crimson Tide moved up to 27-24 overall and 10-16 in the Southeastern Conference game.

Alabama jumped out early with a first inning with four runs and held Auburn scoreless until the fourth. The Tigers overran one in that fourth, added two in the fifth and crossed one in the sixth to tie things. A seventh-place finish in two heats gave Auburn a 6-4 lead in what ended up being the final.

Jacob McNairy gave Alabama another solid start on Saturday. The senior allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with a strikeout in his 6.0 innings of work before handing it to the bullpen in a tied game. Dylan Ray (1-4) suffered defeat on Saturday with Carson Swilling (3-2) of Auburn taking the win. Chase Allsup made his second save of the season thanks to 2.0 goalless frames to end the ball game.

“We did a great job coming out hot in the first inning. We have this big single from (Dominic) Tamez and then the big homer with folks on the base; (Wilhelm Hamiter) did that for us with the triple homer. It can feel like we lost the game midway or late because we gave up runs in four straight innings, but really we gave away too many at-bats after the first inning and I think that’s where we have the ballgame today lost.

How it happened

  • T1 | With two on and one down Dominic Tamez went past the AU shortstop to get the tide on the board. Wilhelm Hamiter followed and sent a ball right over the wall for a three-run home run. (4-0, Alabama)
  • B4 | A solo home run by Bobby Pierce put Auburn on the board. (4-1, Alabama)
  • B5 | An error and a single to center helped the Tigers add a pair (4-3, Alabama)
  • B6 | The Tigers evened things out thanks to an RBI single with four apiece. (4-4)
  • B7 | A two-out single and a stolen base put a man in goal position for AU. Another single through the right side topped the go-ahead run. The Tigers then added another batter later on a wild pitch. (6-4, Maroon)

Post-game notes

  • Cadenrose got into today’s competition and has now safely hit base in his last 11 games, dating back to April 25 against Georgia.

Alabama and Auburn meet Sunday at Plainsman Park for the third game of the series. The Crimson Tide will be looking for left-handed sophomores Grayson Hitt for starters while the Tigers counterattacked with second disciple Joseph Gonzalez, a right-hander. The series finale is scheduled for a 3pm CT first pitch on SEC Network.
