Landon Lorson and Makai Day combined for a two-hitter and South notched multiple runs in three of his four at-bats as it beat Loyalsock 13-1 and gained momentum to advance to the District 4 Class AA playoffs. Lorson hit seven in four innings before Day finished it off with a perfect fifth inning and fanned out two. DJ Gantz and Grant Bachman each had hits and two RBIs as South (13-5) won his second game in two days. Lorson helped his cause by going 2 for 4 with an RBI and three runs. Ben Stoetzel had a hit, RBI and two runs and Kaden Shay had a hit and a run. South rose to No. 3 in the district seeding and will host No. 6 Canton at 4 p.m. Saturday

The Lancers (13-7) are fourth-seeded in the AAA playoffs and host No. 5 Mount Carmel in Saturday’s quarterfinals, with the winner meeting top-seeded Central Columbia next week. The full playoff schedule can be viewed at the bottom of the box scores on this page.

St. John Neumann is in the playoffs for the fourth straight season after beating Sugar Valley 17-2 in three innings. JerVal Weeks-Shuler threw a one-hitter, hit an eight, and hit an RBI double.
