UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Vieira odds, predictions, lines: MMA expert shares surprising fight card picks

Holly Holm shocked the sports world when she defeated the previously invincible Ronda Rousey to win the UFC women’s bantamweight title in 2015. However, she continued to lose five of her next seven fights, including three straight after the shocking win, and has not been in the Octagon since October 2020. Still, Holm is the second-place bantamweight contender, and she looks set to get closer to a title shot when she meets fifth-place Keteln Vieira in Saturday’s main event of UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Vieira. The main UFC fight card is set for 7pm ET from the Apex facility in Las Vegas (see Tickets at StubHub).

Holm is a -230 favorite (risking $230 to win $100), while Vieira is a +190 underdog in the latest UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Vieira Odds from Caesars Sportsbook. The co-main event is a welterweight bout between 14th-ranked contender Santiago Ponzinibbio (+105) and Michel Pereira (-125). UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Vieira Preview

Holm (14-5) found success in the boxing ring before entering the Octagon, going 33-2-3 and winning championships in three different weight classes while defeating legendary opponents like Christy Martin and Mia St. John. The transition to mixed martial arts was seamless for her as she won her first 10 fights, including the stunning upset in November 2015 that ended the three-year UFC bantamweight title reign of previously undefeatable Ronda Rousey.

The star quickly dimmed for Holm as she lost to Miesha Tate in her first defense of the championship. She then dropped decisions against current UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, Germaine de Randamie and Cris Cyborg – the latter two in featherweight title fights – before being defeated by Amanda Nunes in her attempt to regain the bantamweight crown in July 2019 , was KO’d.

Holm regrouped by winning unanimous decisions over Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana. But the latter victory came just two weeks before her 40th birthday in October 2020 and she has not fought since as illness and a knee injury forced her to pull out of two scheduled fights last year.

The New Mexico native should have her hands full with Vieira (12-2), who defeated Tate by unanimous decision in their last fight last November. The 30-year-old Brazilian had lost two of her previous three fights, including a KO loss to Aldana in December 2019. A strong grappler, Vieira was a two-minor bantamweight champion and held the titles in Mr. Cage and Big Way, before joining the UFC in October 2016. UFC Fight Night Predictions

We’re going to reveal one of Gomba’s UFC Fight Night picks here, assisting Felipe Colares (-180) to defeat Chase Hooper (+155) in a featherweight bout.

Colares (10-3) won his first eight professional fights before joining the UFC, where he has alternated losing and winning fights since February 2019. The 28-year-old Brazilian has swung between featherweight and bantamweight during his tenure and suffered a split-decision loss to Chris Gutierrez in the latter last October.

Hooper (10-2-1) was also unsuccessful in his last appearance in the Octagon, losing to Steven Peterson last June by unanimous decision. The 22-year-old Washington native won two of his previous three fights, defeating Daniel Teymur by technical knockout in his UFC debut in December 2019 while tricking Peter Barrett into submitting to a heel lock a year later.

“[Hooper]is a pretty one-dimensional grappler who’s desperate to get fights on the mat,” Gombas told SportsLine. “Colares is a black belt in jiu-jitsu and also likes to solidify. On his feet, Colares has good kicks. … I’m picking Colares to win this fight.”
