Diamondbacks 1B Christian Walker keeps faith in approach, reaps May rewards

CHICAGO — Christian Walker felt like he was taking good bats and knew he was hitting the balls hard, but the results weren’t there for the Diamondbacks first baseman in the first week of the season. Then the first week became two weeks, then three.

Walker, who describes himself as a “tinkerer at heart,” began to wonder: should he continue to trust the work he’s put in over the winter? Or is he stupid to always do the same things and expect different results?

“I felt like I was competitive,” he said. “I felt dangerous at the plate. I felt like I was hitting the balls really hard. But you look up and you hit .160. It’s like, ‘Are things as good as I feel?'”
