Baseball: Late rally helps Park Rapids sweep Frazee – Park Rapids Enterprise

PARK RAPIDS — After winning the first game, the Park Rapids baseball team needed to rally in the second game to complete a double-header sweep in two Section 8AA games against Frazee on the Area High School field on May 17.

The Panthers hit four runs in the second inning and two runs in the sixth to earn a 9-5 win in the first game. Frazee led 6-3 in the second inning of game two before Park Rapids rallied to complete the sweep with a 7-6 win in eight innings.

After Isaiah Olson scored in the first game at Ethan Eischens’ RBI single, the Panthers took a 5-2 lead in the first set by scoring four goals in the second set. Singles from Noah Larson and Olson, two penalties and Jaxson Lund’s two-run double highlighted this inning.

.A double from Eischens and a single from Mason Ylineimi led to a fourth-place run before an error occurred and Noah Morris’ RBI double in the fifth made it 7-3. Park Rapids sealed the win with two walks, one penalty and singles from Ylineimi and Larson in the sixth.

Olson (2 for 4, two carries), Eischens (2 for 3), Yliniemi (2 for 4), Larson (3 for 4, two carries) and Morris (2 for 4) led Park Rapids’ 13-hit attack at. Sawyer Torkelson started and took the win, Lund finished the race.

In the second game, the Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as two walks and a single by Yliniemi with two outs set up an RBI single by Torkelson and a two-run single by Michaelson.

Frazee scored six goals in the second round before Park Rapids recovered. A mistake and Lund’s RBI single narrowed the gap to 6-5 in the fourth before Larson singled and hit Morris’ RBI single to tie the game 6-6 in the fifth. A two-out double by Lund and Eischens’ RBI single brought victory in the eighth.

Lund (2 for 5, two carries) and Larson (2 for 4) led a 10-hit offensive tackle for the Panthers. Morris didn’t allow a run for the win to Larson’s relief as Frazee fell to 4-7 and 5-7 overall in the section games.

PARK RAPIDS — The Panthers conceded just three hits in an 8-0 Section 8AA loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on the field at Area High School on Thursday, May 19.

Park Rapids missed scoring chances in the first two innings as Lund walked and Eischens had an error in the first while Torkelson, Morris and Olson walked in the second.

Singles by Olson and Eischens in the fifth and a single by Larson in the sixth were the only hits for the Panthers.

Olson started and took the loss as the Panthers fell to 3-1 and 8-6 overall against section teams. Eischens put up two scoreless innings of relief. DGF improved to 5-4 in section play and 9-5 overall.
