Who is Joe Rogan?

Joe Rogan is an American podcaster, UFC commentator, comedian and actor. He was born on August 11, 1967 in Newark, New Jersey. His parents divorced when Joe was five years old and it is alleged that Joe had not been in contact with his father Joseph since he was 7 years old.

Joe Rogan attended Newton South High School, graduating in 1985. His career as a UFC mixed martial arts commentator is not entirely surprising given that Joe developed an interest in martial arts in his early teens. He has previously said that martial arts “not only gave me confidence but also a different perspective on myself and what I’m capable of. I knew I could do something I was afraid of and it was really difficult and that I could excel at it.”

He started Taekwondo at age 15 and won the US Open Championship at 19 as a lightweight. During his years at the University of Massachusetts Boston, he became a four-time champion and eventually became a taekwondo instructor.

He dropped out of college because he thought it was “pointless” and lived in Boston until he was 24.

comedy career

Joe Rogan dived into comedy at a young age after realizing he was a fan of Richard Pryor’s film Live on the Sunset Strip. It was his friends at taekwondo school that finally convinced him to try his hand at stand-up comedy. At age 21, he performed his first stand-up routine at Stitches Comedy Club in Boston.

Joe Rogan eventually secured the management services of Jeff Sussman, who was impressed by a routine he was performing at a Boston comedy club. He later became a full-time comedian after moving to New York City in 1990.

Joe Rogan began working for the UFC – Ultimate Fighting Championship – in 1997 as a backstage and post-fight interviewer. He managed to land the role because his manager Jeff Sussman was friends with Campbell McLaren, the co-founder of the UFC. He resigned after 2 years because his income could not easily cover the travel expenses.

He returned to the UFC as a color commentator in 2002 after befriending new president Dana White. He initially offered his services in exchange for free tickets to UFC events, but after 15 shows he began accepting cash payments.

He has continued to comment on UFC events but missed UFC 271 in February 2022 after controversy surrounding his podcast, which included a compilation video of him using racial slurs that went viral.
