This $38.5M Lake Tahoe Estate Has Its Own Deep-Water Dock and Beach – Robb Report

The aptly named “Shangri La” Residence represents just that – an idyllic retreat that is your very own utopia. This $38.5 million Tahoe City estate on the west shore of Lake Tahoe is a year-round paradise.

From the gated, heated driveway to the pristine pebble beaches lies a world of wonder on this 4 acre property. In total there are nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms and two guest toilets in the main house, the detached guest house and the guest apartment.

The 2020 West Lake Boulevard home was designed by a famous Los Angeles designer Gary Gibson, known for its high-end approach to traditional interior design. The house was first built in 1993 and has recently been modernized and remodeled for today’s modern buyer. On the property, every amenity and detail has been thought of to create the most self-sufficient retreat for family and friends.

The house has a traditional cottage atmosphere.

For example, the heated driveway, made of 3-inch granite imported from India, features an advanced snow-melting system, while the courtyard is made of hand-hewn insulated stone. Inside you’ll find mahogany walls, beautiful stone fireplaces, custom cabinetry, exposed wood beam ceilings and other handpicked materials that reflect Tahoe’s history.

The seven-bedroom main residence has an upscale cabin aesthetic with clean lines, plush wood, and chic decor. There is a gourmet farmhouse style kitchen with a fireplace, as well as a butler’s pantry with a commercial Frigidaire fridge and freezer. Also in the main residence is an incredible 22 meter indoor swimming pool. Both the pool and hot tub are powered by an advanced UV system and a commercial ozone system, meaning no chemicals are used. There is a sauna next to the pool, as the previous owner emphasized a healthy, natural lifestyle.

There is also a guest apartment in the main house with its own kitchen and a detached guest house that pays homage to traditional Tahoe cottages. It was built for entertainment and as a longstanding tradition the owner hosts annual family Olympics on the property.

“The sellers have a large network of family and friends,” says lead agent Bill Dietz of Tahoe Luxury Properties. “Their property on the shores of Lake Tahoe provided the perfect gathering place for family and friends to gather, unwind, relax and socialize. It’s a camp with style for both kids and adults.”

Tahoe is known for its array of outdoor activities, and Shangri-La is no exception. The home sits on 130 feet of lakefront, which is very rare for Tahoe, and features a private deep water pier with a boat lift and two buoys. On this side of the lake, the beaches are known for their pebbly texture and there are many beaches from which to enjoy the wonderful seascape, as well as plenty of grassy area for summertime entertaining. The owners also built a custom built in-ground hot tub and outdoor garden shower to enjoy sunsets and warm up after a swim in the alpine lake.

Other outdoor amenities include an underground bocce ball court and horseshoe moat near the courtyard, and the backyard also converts to a pro-sized volleyball and badminton court. The property’s nature trail can also be used as an extreme croquet course. The courtyard lies between the main house and is sheltered from the east wind; Here you will find a basketball hoop.

“While recreational opportunities in the Lake Tahoe area are limitless, everything you need is within the confines of the property,” says Dietz. “There is always spirited play going on somewhere on the property. The owners host the West Shore Olympics which features a decathlon of games over the course of a weekend. The winning team will be crowned Grand Champion on Sunday.”

Other features include an executive office, formal dining room and an expansive master suite.

“The west shore of Lake Tahoe has been the choice of well-heeled but adventurous visitors for generations,” says Dietz. “In the early 20th century, business barons like JP Morgan and Duane L. Bliss built sprawling estates on the West Coast. That tradition continues today as tech tycoons and financiers set down roots here. The west shore is popular for its calm waters, ancient forests, extensive hiking trails and dramatic peaks.”
