In 1999, researchers Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris set out to study inadvertent blindness, the phenomenon of not seeing something happening in sight. The two designed the Invisible Gorilla Test. In a 24-second clip, two teams of three, separated in black and white jerseys, passed a basketball to their teammates while hopping and zipping around each other. The study asked participants to watch the clip and count the white team’s passes.
